Opera Browser Now Supports Bitcoin and Tron Cryptocurrency Payments
Opera Browser has added Bitcoin and Tron cryptocurrency payment support to its Android browser, expanding its commitment to Web 3.0 and cryptocurrency adoption. This update allows users to send and receive Bitcoin directly through the browser without requiring additional extensions.
The integration follows Opera's previous cryptocurrency initiatives, including:
- Launch of a "web 3 ready" Android browser
- Development of a crypto-friendly iOS app
- Release of a desktop browser with built-in digital wallet
- Partnership with a Swedish crypto broker for discounted ETH in Scandinavia
Previously limited to Ethereum support, Opera's crypto wallet now accommodates both Bitcoin and Tron networks. With over 350 million users globally, this expansion makes cryptocurrency transactions more accessible to mainstream users.
Opera's Product Lead of Opera Crypto, Charles Hamel, emphasizes their commitment to making the decentralized web more accessible: "We believe the web of today will be the interface to the decentralized web of tomorrow."
The browser now enables users to:
- Store crypto and ERC20 tokens directly in the browser
- Send and receive cryptocurrency seamlessly
- Make payments and transactions on websites
- Interact with decentralized applications
While currently available only on Android, industry experts anticipate the Bitcoin support will expand to Opera's iOS and desktop platforms in the future.
This development aligns with broader tech industry trends toward blockchain adoption, following HTC's launch of blockchain smartphones and Facebook's planned Libra cryptocurrency initiative.
